Appointment of Verger and Cleaner

The deadline for applications for the posts of Verger and Church Cleaner is Sunday 10th September. Please send a letter or email to the Vicar to express your interest. Job descriptions for both posts are given below.


Job Description for Cleaner

The job is for 7 hours per week with the expectation that these will be worked over two days.
The list below is not exhaustive nor is it intended that all these things will be done on every occasion.
The person appointed will be working without direct supervision and will need to show initiative in establishing their own routine and setting priorities.

  • Using Spray Polish Dust clergy vestry, clean sink and empty waste bin
  • Dust Sanctuary Furniture and Reredos.
  • Dust Chancel and clean Chancel step.
  • Dust and polish choir stalls, brush floor and mop 2/3 times per year.
  • Dust and polish pews, brush floor, brush seats and mop floor 2/3 times per year.
  • Polish tables and other furniture at back of Church.
  • Tidy magazines and papers on literature table.
  • Clean Glass top for memorial flowers, and glass doors of entrance porch.
  • Sweep the porch and the side aisles, mop 2/3 times per year.
  • Clean toilet, mop floor, check toilet rolls, soap and paper towels.
  • Clean kitchen work tops and sink and mop floor.
  • Vacuum all carpets.
  • Monthly - or when it is likely to be used, clean gallery
  • Remove cobwebs as necessary - check window ledges
  • Restock cleaning materials, soap and toilet rolls.
  • Wash Tea towels and dusters when necessary.
  • Remove wax from carpet using warm iron and blotting paper.
  • Brasses to be polished.
  • Be prepared to greet people visiting the Church and provide basic information about services and wedding/baptism bookings.
